In 1991, Smithfield West was officially renamed Andrews Farm, by the Geographical Names Board. The suburb is bounded by Stebonheath, Curtis, Andrews, and Petherton roads, which were formerly part of Smithfield West. The area was named after the Andrews family who farmed in the area.
John Andrews and Grace Boundy were married in Falmouth in 1843. John, born in 1815 to parents John and Mary Andrews of Illogen, near Redruth, Cornwall. The parents of Grace, born in 1814 were John and Sarah Boundy of Perranaworthal, Cornwall.
Two children were born to John and Grace before they migrated to the colonies. William in 1845 and Grace in 1846. Both children were christened in the Wesleyan Methodist chapel in Carharrock, Gwennap, Cornwall. The family sailed from Plymouth aboard the Stebonheath on the 31st Jan 1849 arriving at Port Adelaide on the 11th May 1849.
The family lived in Burra before relocating to the Smithfield area a few years later. They lived at Clover Glen on Fradd Road, Smithfield. John Andrews purchased sections 3296 and 3299. Section 3296 is on the corner of Dalkeith Road. The house no longer stands but a few pepper trees and a palm tree mark the site.
John and Grace had a further seven children. The eldest William, married Ellen Hillier in 1875. They first lived at Clover Glen and then at the Andrews Farm near the corner of Curtis and Stebonheath Roads. On completing his education, he began work on a farm with his father on the Gawler Plains, and when his father died made a start for himself, having about 400 acres of freehold land and 290 acres which he leased. He cultivated on an average 300 acres yearly. The chief products were wheat and hay, with some dairying.
When William settled on the land at Smithfield, the land was covered with dense scrub; there were no houses, and, instead of fences, the boundaries were marked with a few pegs.
A second son, John was born on 13th February 1854. John married Harriette Louisa Oakford, daughter of Thomas Oakford in 1878. The family lived in Condowie.

Harriette died on the in November 1894 at the age of 40.
In 1895 John remarried. His second wife was Fanny Oakford, daughter of James Oakford.

William worked with his father, farming on the Gawler Plains. Their main produce was wheat and hay.
Grace Andrews married Richard Best on the 6th February 1873, but died at the age of 27 on the 31st October of that year.
John senior died at the age of 55 in 1870, and his widow Grace aged 81, in 1895. They are buried in the Angle Vale Methodist church cemetery.
In 1918 another home was built, named Stebonheath after the ship the family arrived on. It was to remain in the family for the next two generations. Following the completion of Stebonheath William’s son John George, who had been living at his parents home on Coventry Road, moved to the new home.
William died on the 10 May 1928 aged 84 years old of and at Smithfield and his wife Ellen died on the 25 November 1923 aged 41 years old of and at Smithfield. They are both buried at Angle Vale Cemetery.
When William Andrews was 31 years old he married Ellen Hillier 23 years old on the 24 Nov 1875 at the Bible Christian Chapel, Angle Vale. William and Ellen had the following children:-

William Harold Foster 1876
When William Harold Foster Andrews was 25 years old he married Blanch Beaumont aged 25 years old on the 26 Sept 1901 at the residence of George Beaumont of Glenelg, the bride’s father. They had the following children:-

Harold George was born on the 11 Nov 1907 at Angle Vale
Ronald Frank was born on the 15 April 1911 at Angle Vale.
William Harold Foster died on the 1 March 1950 aged 73 years old of Smithfield at Gawler and his wife Blanch died on the 14 July 1942 aged 66 years old of and at Smithfield. They are both buried at Angle Vale Cemetery.
When Harold George was 23 years old he married Mary Sylvia Johns age 21 years old on the 11 March1931 at Virginia. They had one child:-
Sterle Harold was born on the 11 Nov 1946 at Gawler.
Harold George enlisted when he was 35 years old on the 9 January 1942 at Gawler. He was given the service number S73229 and assigned to the 10th Battalion Vol. Defence Unit. His next of kin was his wife Mary Andrews and his occupation was farm labourer.
Harold George died on the 28 June 2003 aged 95 years old of and at Moonta and his wife Mary Sylvia died on the 26 July 2001 aged 91 years old of and at Moonta. They are both buried at Moonta Cemetery.

John George married Jessica Badman on the 14th July 1903. Jessica was the daughter of Matthias Badman of Tarlee.

Gordon Rupert Andrews married Valda Sands in 1944. He continued farming at Stebonheath until his retirement in the 1970’s. Gordon was involved n numerous community organisations. He served as a Councillor on Munno Para Council, representing Evanston Ward for 14 years.
