AddBy: GJK23rd Aug 2024 11:08PMMervyn Dudley Taylor born Mile End, South Australia, 14 July 1919
Taylor Farm Section 3160 and 3167 Munno Para
3160 fronts Uley Road 3167 fronts Craigmore Road
Eighty acres each section
Directly behind Mervyn looking east in the photo is now where Craigmore High school is built
We lived in Elizabeth Downs when the first houses were built in Filsoll Street
We knew it as Merv's Farm
Merv would allow us locals kids to go onto the farm and pick black berries and raspberries from 2 huge trees growing next to Smiths Creek on the south western side of the very large gum tree that is still growing there today.
This is only a few metres from Mervyn brother's - Kevin Taylor Memorial Park.
Mervyn would drive around to the public telephone box just across the road from our house in Filsoll Street Elizabeth Downs to make his telephone calls.
Merv was well know and a very friendly happy character.
He lived on his own in the old farm house up until just before it was demolished to make way for the building of Craigmore High school.
Alexander Christie Taylor purchased the land in 1922 Alexander was Mervyn Father.
Mervyn attended the Smithfield Primary School
Mervyn past away 1st April 1996 at the age of 76 and is buried in the Houghton Cemetery, Johns Road, Houghton, South Australia.
Mervyn father and mother are also buried there.
