Rosalie was born on the 22 June 1888 at Delamere, Yankalilla, South Australia. Her father was Frederick Collins and her mother was Catherine Kelly. They were married on the 6 December 1883 at St. Paul Church, Port Adelaide. They were old residents of Glenburn (later Delamere).
They had the following children:-
Frederick William was born on the 10 September 1884 at Yatala.
Alice Beatrice was born on the 1 August 1886 at Delamere.
Rosalie Kate was born on the 22 June 1888 at Delamere.
Edith Maria was born on the 20 July 1890 at Delamere.
Elizabeth May was born on the 9 August 1894 at Delamere.
Myra Dorothy was born on the 3 July 1896 at Delamere.
Frederick Collins was a councillor for Rapid Bay Ward in 1902. Frederick died in June 1923 at Delamere aged 67 years old.
After completing school Rosalie went on to become a teacher. She passed the Junior Public Examinations in Literature, History, Geography, Arithmetic and Algebra in 1906. The following year she was appointed as Provisional Teacher to Blyth Scrub School. She remained there until the end of 1908 before moving to Hammerville in 1909. Four years later she was transferred to Redbanks. Her inspectors reports had her as “greatly improved now and working earnestly and effectively” and was on 100% of the salary. Her efficiency mark was 75%.
Rosalie became a teacher in 1916 at Redbank and her efficiency mark improved to 83%. She was describes as “bright, sympathetic, very good, capable, intelligent, progressive, vivacious, interested, forceful and thoughtful methods by the inspectors.
In 1918, Rosalie moved to Inman Valley as Head Teacher. Two years later she was at Marble Hill before moving to Penfield in 1922 as Head Teacher.
She retired on the 30 June 1924 and shortly after married Arthur Underdown Urlwin at St. James Church, Delamere. She was 36 years.
Arthur was the son of Arthur and Eliza Underdown of Penfield. Eliza was the daughter of John Squire Underdown, Chairman of the Munno Para West Council. Arthur senior purchased a property on Commercial Road, Salisbury. Arthur, was born in 1887. Arthur senior retired in the early 1920’s and Arthur junior took over the farm.
The couple had the following children:-
Beryl May was born on the 17 August 1927 at North Adelaide, and Enid.
Arthur’s father was a church warden at St. John’s Church, Salisbury and Arthur succeeded him in the office. Arthur passed his Commercial Course in December 1903 in the School of Mines Annual Examinations. He became a farmer in Salisbury and in 1941 they lived in Virginia Road, Salisbury.
Rosalie was busy with church activities for the rest of her life. She died on the 27 January 1948 at Salisbury aged 59 years old and in buried in St. John’s church Cemetery.
Arthur sold 112 acres to the South Australian Housing Trust early in 1950 and a portion of his homestead for a high school. The remaining 22 acres along the river were purchased by the District Council for a reserve. The Ulwin’s purchased a former hotel Happy Home built in 1851 and closed in 1861. The “Happy Home” was one of them. It was built on part of section 3056 in the Hundred of Munno Para and situated on the Two Wells Road (Waterloo Corner Road) and on the northern bank of the Little Para River. The land became the Salisbury North Subdivision.
