Samuel Stone was born on the 8 October 1807 at Landewednack, Cornwall, England. His parents were Francis Stone (1761-1825) and Jane Lawrence (1776-1844). Samuel married on the 25 November 1832 at Breage, Cornwall to Martha Williams (1813-1886). Martha was born in October 1813 at Germoe, Cornwall, England
When Samuel was 40 years old he emigrated and landed at Port Adelaide on the 5 July 1848 on the ship Westminster. He was a farmer. They arrived with their first five children and then had three more.
Mary Jane was born in 1834.
Samuel Thomas was born in 1836 at Germoe, Cornwall.
Henry was born in 1842.
Elizabeth was born in 1845.
William Francis was born in 1848. He died in 1849.
Martha was born in 1850.
William was born in 1852.
James was born in 1856.
They resided at North Adelaide, Black Forest, Rose Hill and at Gawler. Samuel was fined 10 shillings for riding a bullock dray without any person on foot to guide the same. At the Gawler Agricultural Show on the 12 February 1859 Samuel won 1st prize of £2 pounds 2 shillings for 200 lbs of potatoes and 2nd prize of 10 shillings and 6 pence for4 lbs of fresh butter. He won many prizes in subsequent years. Samuel was also elected a councillor at the meeting of the Munno Para East in 1861 and many other years.
On the 3 April 1875 this advertisement appeared in the Adelaide Observer:-
“FOR SALE- The valuable FREE HOLD FARM and LANDS of Mr. Samuel Stone (who intends giving up farming) situated on GAWLER HILLS about three miles and a half from the town of Gawler, consisting altogether about 530 Acres of first-class Agricultural and Grazing Land, well fenced, partly sheep-proof, and divided into five paddocks. River frontage to the South and two permanent springs of water on the land, with Stone Dwelling House, containing seven rooms and about four and a half acres of garden and vineyard in full bearing; an underground tank capable of containing about 7,000 gallons; a stone cottage, store room with cellar, stables, sheds and all other conveniences. The terms were – One-third cash; remainder for a term of five or seven years at 6% per annum interest. For viewing the property apply to Samuel Stone at the property; and for all particulars to Mr. F. F. Turner, Solicitor, Todd Street, Gawler.”
Samuel died of dropsy on the 8 August 1887 aged 80 years old. He had been a colonist of 40 years. Probate was granted of £3,100 at Gawler West on the 18 August 1887.
Samuel Thomas Stone was born in 1836 at Germoe, Cornwall and was baptised on the 10 February 1836 at Breage, Cornwall. He arrived with his parents on the ship Westminster in 1848. He was also a farmer and resided at Woolyama, Willowie, near Hawker. He married on the 6 February 1858 in the Wesleyan Chapel, Gawler Hills to Elizabeth Ann Harvey Matthews. She was born in 1837 at St. Just, Cornwall. Her parents were Abednego Matthews (188-1868) and Mary Harvey (1806). They had the following children:-

On the 2 December 1910 a fire broke out on Samuel Thomas’s property in the Hundred of Woolyama about 18 miles NW of Hawker. It was caused by lightning. With hard work it was stopped before it destroyed the wheat crop, but 300acres of grass and fencing was burnt.
Samuel Thomas died on the 31/3/1898 at Willowie aged 62 years old. Elizabeth died on the 25 September 1906 at Redhill, South Australia aged 69 years old.
Samuel Thomas Stone the 2nd died on the 3/11/1918 at Reynolds aged 60 years old.
