Robert Peter Smith was born 8 August 1934 in Balranald NSW. He had previously worked as a salesman before he joined SAPOL on 15 January 1962 and after training was stationed in the city.
He served in Elizabeth for 18 years as a patrol officer. With the exception of the period 27 April 1972 to 15 September 1978 when he was deployed to Para Hills, Pete served at the Elizabeth station until his death in 1986.
He was renowned for his capacity to relate to the local residents, especially those with particular need and always willing to go the extra mile. He was a fine example to younger police personnel displaying patience, being unflappable, but also being very film when firmness was required.
He passed away in 1986.
