24 Jane St
This may have been an outbuilding of a larger home at some stage. The majority of owners of the building in Smithfield from the mid 1860's were either blacksmiths or labourers. It was owned by Robert Oliver, a blacksmith in 1865, then by Benjamin Last in April 1975. Alfred Blackman purchased the property in July 1888 and sold it to Thomas Greenwood, a railway ganger in 1895. Two months later Alfred Blackman purchased the property again. After his death in April 1913, it was sold to Thomas Blackman, a blacksmith in Janaury 1917.
The cottage changed hands regulary, Margaret Arthur (1917 - 1919), Leonard Joseph Amos, railway porter (1919 - 1920's), Alice and Melville Burdon (1940's - Dec 1955).
