John born in 1810 at St Days Gwennap, Cornwall. He arrived in South Australia with his wife in the ship ‘Royal Admiral, in January 1838. Married Elizabeth Pascoe in 1837 in Gwennap, Cornwall. Their first child John was born in 1841 while they reside at Port Road. James was born two years later followed by Mary Ann, Maria, Lavinia, and Elizabeth.
Soon after arrival he began farming on Port Road, later took up land on the Gawler River. In 1852, John owned sections 82, 83, 84, 3019, 3052, 7582, 7583, 7584, 7561, 7560, 7559, 3881, 3882, 4145, 3283, 3285.
He was an active member of the Primitive Methodist church. Their farm has been referred to as Pelgreep, a name that their daughter Mary Ann and her husband Charles Trenberth also used for their farm at Kadina.
He retired from farming and moved to Payneham wehre he passed away on 12 September 1894. He is buried in the Angle Vale Cemetery.
Marie married John Alexander Knox who had been in the employ of John Magor.
