Archival Roy McKenzie

Archival was born on 23 August 1895 at One Tree Hill, the son of Duncan Amelia Norris.  Duncan and Amelia had the following children;

              Helen born on 3 September 1881 at Humbug Scrub.

              Amelia born on 29 January 1884 at One Tree Hill.

              Rowe born on 10 May 1888 at One Tree Hill.

              Archival Roy born on 23 August 1895 at One Tree Hill.

Archival was 21 years old farmer, when he enlisted on 2 September 1915.  He was assigned to the 7^th Artillery Brigade and was trained as a gunner.  He then joined the 23^rd Howitzer Battery as a driver.  He embarked at Melbourne on 20 May 1916, landing in Plymouth, England, and then proceeded to France. 

He was sent to join the 3^rd Division Artillery Headquarters.  He was on leave in England when the war ended.  He sailed for Australia on the “Zealandia”.   Archival was awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal.

Archival married 20 years old Dorothy Townsend Webber at the Methodist Church, Pirie Street, Adelaide on 16 June 1926.  Archival and Dorothy had 4 children;

              Graham George, Leslie, Bruce and Ian

Archival enlisted again at the age of 45 years for World War II on 31 August 1940.  He was still a farmer at One Tree Hill.  He was appointed Lance Corporal on 7 October 1941 and Acting Corporal on 3 February 1942.  He went to the Brigade Training School for a week in April 1942.  He was sent to Alice Springs in 1943 but was evacuated because of varicose veins and he was declared unfit and was discharged on 1 April 1944.

Archival returned to farming but died on 31 March 1947 aged 51 years at Hutchinson Hospital, Gawler.  The funeral left the house of his brother in law Mr. F. Hutchens Gawler on Wednesday for Uley Cemetery. 

Dorothy died on 18 September 1991 aged 85 years and is buried in the same grave as Archival.
