In the early 1960s part of the Smithfield Magazine area no longer in use was sold by the government. The Smithfield Magazine formed part of the Munitions Factory built in the Penfield area in the early 1940s.1 The area sold was developed as MacDonald Park farmlets by MacDonald Reid Pty Ltd., in 1964.2
